Angela Yvonne Davis is a Professor Emerita of UC Santa Cruz and a long-time activist and author, documenting her experience and activism against oppression to this day. Her political activism rose in popularity after she faced termination and detainment for her affiliation with the Communist Party and was wrongly imprisoned for her involvement with murder and conspiracy. Her imprisonment led to an international campaign to release Davis from prison in the early 70s. She continues to advocate for prison reform, equal rights for women, queer, transgender, and people of color, and the unoccupation of Palestine. Davis visited the UHD campus to offer lectures during luncheons and readings and connected with the Gator community. To read more on her visit and her book, “Freedom is a Constant Struggle: Ferguson, Palestine, and the Foundation of a Movement,” visit these stories written by student reporters.
