The Dateline and The Bayou Review are teaming up for a campus celebration of creativity, publishing and storytelling. A joint party on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at the 40,000 Windows Café on the fifth floor of the W.I. Dykes Library.
The event invites students to come to discover the power of campus publishing and meet the editors, writers, and artists behind UHD’s literary and journalistic outlets. Ranging from creative writing, reporting or editing. This is a chance to get involved and learn about the process of publishing work with the Dateline, and having your work potentially chosen by the Bayou Review for publication.
Attendees can look forward to a live performance by Gator Groove, UHD’s student band, performing a 30-minute bilingual set in both English and Spanish. The event will include free food and drinks, raffles for special prizes and fun activities.
Both publications are actively seeking new contributors and editors to join their teams. The Dateline serves as UHD’s student newspaper, while The Bayou Review is UHD’s student-run literary and arts magazine. Working at The Bayou Review as an editor is a hands-on experience, it counts both as course credit for the class ENG 3332: Literary Magazine Production and as an internship opportunity for students. ENG/TCOM 4360 Publications Workshop is linked to The Dateline, where students learn the basics of journalism and earn credit by contributing articles to the newspaper.
Come and ease your curious appetite because this is your ticket to UHD’s publishing community.
