Student organizations and their leaders were granted an evening full of fun and recognition during One Main Event on April 17.
Hosted by Student Leadership & Involvement, One Main Event celebrates the work of student organizations and student leadership on campus.
The theme for this event was Casino Night. One Main Event attendees indulged in card games such as Blackjack and other iconic casino games including “Roulette” and “Craps.”
People who accrued the most money by the end of the night won prizes such as a TV, gift cards, a toaster oven, and more.
This year’s One Main Event also allowed for new and upcoming student organizations a chance to be rewarded for their efforts.
Based on unique and innovative concepts, multiple organizations, such as Girl Genius, Women in the College of Public Service, and the Feminist Literature Club, made their mark on campus this past year.
Among them is the Music Appreciation Club, winner of the Rising Star award, which recognizes outstanding achievement by new student organizations
UMAC kicked off at the beginning of the fall 2024 semester. Since then, it has accumulated over 200 registered members on CampusGroups.
UMAC President Sam Pueblos reflects on the Rising Star win and what it means for the future of UMAC.
“Standing on that stage next to the officers was such an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment,” said Pueblos. “It’s always cool to see where passion can take you. This award belongs to our members as much as it does us, so I am very excited to see what the next generation of UMAC brings once I leave—I know they’ll reach even greater heights!”

Older organizations have also gained recognition. Association of Latino Professionals for America, originally founded in 1972, has been a pioneer for fostering career growth, leadership and community for Latino professionals.
Through dedication to its mission, the UHD chapter earned the Organization of the Year award.
ALPFA expressed their gratitude in a post on LinkedIn:
“We are so incredibly honored to have been given this award, as it is our first time receiving it, and we could not be prouder of our team for making this possible! Everything we do is to help our members elevate and have opportunities that positively impact their futures! Thank you for believing in us, and to those who came before us who have shaped this organization into what it is today!”
Not only was this year’s One Main Event a night of recognition and achievement, but also one of fun and bold choices with high stakes at play.
