The Houston Astros’ eight years straight of postseason appearances have come to an end.
With the loss at Minute Maid Park, along with the streak as well, comes a true fresh start to Daikin Park’s legacy.
After the three-game series win against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Astros lost 40 out of 70 of their remaining games, including those they had to win to maintain control over the American League West.
Ultimately losing the overall series to the Seattle Mariners — eight of the 13 games they have played — the losses had the Astros depend on the Texas Rangers to defeat the Cleveland Guardians to make it to the playoffs, but the Rangers lost.
However, the organization had to deal with a copious amount of injuries at one point in the season; 18 players were on the injured reserve list, or IR, at one time. The Astros had 38 players on IR throughout the season, the third-most injuries in MLB.
That included many starting rotation players who were out for a great deal of games, like Jeremy Peña, Yordan Alvarez and Isaac Paredes.
The season ended in disappointment for the Astros, but fans should not be discouraged.
Astros fans will have to enjoy the postseason on the couch and not at Daikin Park.
