The Musee du Louvre, Paris and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston bring the “Louvre Couture” to Houstonians

All art enthusiasts, as well as people looking for a chill date spot, are aware of the wonders of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Not only does it have breathtaking art pieces and a café, it even includes wonderful exhibitions such as the “Louvre Couture” which is currently on view through March 16. So, not only do art enthusiasts have pieces to admire, but so do fashion enthusiasts. The “Louvre Couture” includes pieces by Chanel, Dolce&Gabbana, Versace, Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood and Balenciaga. Of course, it is not limited to only these design houses. The entire exhibit contains 36 ensembles from 23 different design houses and MFAH kindly provides visitors with a pamphlet describing the purpose of the exhibit, how fashion and art are intertwined, a listing of all the ensembles and a map graciously showing visitors where exactly to find each ensemble. This information is provided both in English as well as in Spanish.

The ensembles are located throughout two different buildings: The Audrey Jones Beck Building and the Nancy and Rich Kinder Building. All the ensembles are carefully placed alongside artworks that echo the time period, culture or material of the ensemble which was meticulously arranged through collaboration with the Louvre and MFAH as stated in the pamphlet, “Through collaboration with the Louvre, the exhibition echoes the original thesis of the show — placing art objects and the art of couture in conversation. Louvre Couture at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston provides an exciting lens through which to view the past, present and future of artistic expression through the medium of fashion.” Now is the perfect time to appreciate the pieces of art — paintings, sculptures and dresses alike — before March arrives, and the “Louvre Couture” returns to the Louvre in Paris. Fortunately, museums are free each Thursday and parking is only 10 dollars.
