Karla Carrillo, Editor
Karla Carrillo (she/her) is the Editor at The Dateline. Previously the Assistant Editor, with two years of reporting and editing experience, she has contributed to the Campus News, Opinions, and Arts & Entertainment sections since September 2022. She has also worked as an illustrator and briefly submitted art pieces for numerous articles.
Karla is a senior at UHD graduating in Spring 2025 with a Bachelor’s in English with a concentration in Creative Writing. An aspiring author, she loves working on fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, play productions, and academic writing. Her poem, “Waving the Last Flag” was published in the Fall 2023 issue of The Bayou Review literary magazine at UHD. A researcher since 2021, Karla also presented two research presentations on American literature and pop culture at the Spring 2022 Honors Undergraduate Research Conference at Lone Star College in University Park. She served as a reporter for the Arts & Entertainment section in the Circulatory Team of Lone Star College’s Honors College.
When she is not writing or researching, she is devouring trending novels (while writing critical notes in the margins), crocheting her latest projects, playing PC video games, being a dog mom, and sightseeing in her hometown of Houston, Texas.
