This past spring, a group of students came together to share their love for Formula 1 racing—and the UHD Formula 1 Club was born. The group’s first event took place in April, when members gathered at Gristworks to watch the Bahrain Grand Prix. Since then, the club has grown into a small but dedicated community of F1 fans eager to bring more motorsport excitement to campus.
Over the summer, the group launched an Instagram account (@UHD_F1) to connect with other UHD students and share race highlights, updates, and memes throughout the F1 season. Their posts invite followers to tune in, discuss race results, and enjoy the thrill of global competition together. One of the club’s media administrators even attended the U.S. Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, capturing photos and sharing them online for fellow fans.
Despite their enthusiasm, the Formula 1 Club has hit a few bumps in the road. To be recognized as an official UHD organization, the group needs a faculty advisor, which they haven’t yet secured. Without that official status, they face limits on what they can do: no campus event tables, no participation in student organization fairs, and no access to specific university resources that would help them grow.
“We’ve put in the work,” said one of the club’s members. “We have a constitution, officers, and over 50 followers on Instagram—but until we have an advisor, we can’t really do all the things we want to.”
Still, the team remains optimistic, planning out possibilities for after those initial goals have been met. As the Formula 1 season heads toward its final races, club members continue to chat online and keep the spirit alive. For them, the joy of the sport and the sense of community it builds makes the effort worthwhile.
The UHD Formula 1 Club is holding out hope that a faculty or staff member will step forward to help them gain official recognition. Until then, they will continue doing what they love, cheering for their favorite teams and debating race strategies.
