In 2021, Nintendo announced that the Animal Crossing: New Horizons (2.0) update would be the last free update. Five years later, a new update will be available for free on Jan. 15, alongside the release of the Switch 2 edition.
The switch 2 edition includes enhanced resolution capped at 30 fps, mouse controls for the joy-cons for easier access to decorate homes, create custom designs for clothes and bulletin board posts. A new megaphone feature lets players call any resident or NPCS that are on the island. Online play previously limited to eight players, has been expanded to 12.
Game chat has also been upgraded. In addition to chatting with friends, players can now connect with a compatible USB camera to appear in the game showing their face.
The animal crossing update includes a seaside resort hotel. Players can decorate rooms in exchange for tickets that can be redeemable at the souvenir shop. Home storage is also increased from 5000 items to 9000. Lastly, players can also unlock slumber islands where they can decorate with furniture and items they’ve obtained as well as choosing the time of day and weather.
