Going to college is an opportunity to practice your networking skills on campus. As a graduate student, I am glad to have another chance to make more friends and professional connections at UHD. With the right strategies, you can make friends and valuable connections that might extend beyond graduation.
You might hear this advice a lot, but the best way to make friends in college is to get involved in student clubs and organizations on campus. Do not worry if you feel intimidated by this idea!
Think about your interests and explore what clubs and organizations UHD offers. If there is not a club that you are looking for, consider starting one. UHD Student Leadership & Involvement makes it easy to start your own student organization.
The next best way to meet more friends and professionals is to attend events on campus.
Take advantage of the fact that it is the beginning of the semester and attend as many events as you can. UHD, student organizations, and outside organizations have a lot of events for students to attend.
You can find out what is happening on campus by checking out UHD-related websites, such as CampusGroups, social media pages, and checking your Gator Mail.
In addition, you can use social media to connect with classmates and stay engaged with them outside the classroom. Plan gatherings on or off-campus and build relationships with your fellow gators, alumni, and anyone else in the UH system. Just be sure to balance in-person and virtual meetings. Use your best judgement to keep everyone safe and healthy.
Lastly, remember to be yourself! You will make the most authentic and rewarding connections if you stay true to who you are. You will eventually find your tribe if you stay genuine and take part in activities you enjoy.
Overall, try to stay on top of what is happening on campus, try to meet someone new as much as possible, and nurture the connections that you make. Good luck this semester and happy networking!
