The Bayou Review is calling for creative writers and artists to submit their work for inclusion in the spring 2025 issue.
The Bayou Review was founded in 1987 and is published biannually by the UHD’s English Department. As a student-run literary and arts magazine, The Bayou Review accepts creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, book reviews, and visual art. Works in English, Spanish, Spanglish, and translations into English are all welcome.
The spring 2025 team, led by Faculty Advisor Dr. Laura Cesarco Eglin, considers works submitted by anyone.
“The Bayou Review is a unique literary and arts magazine that publishes work from writers, poets, translators, and artists from UHD, Houston, the U.S., and the world,” said Cesarco Eglin.
Cesarco Eglin was previously the Faculty Advisor of The Bayou Review from spring 2022 to spring 2023.
The selection process is headed by student interns who review all submissions for approval or rejection. Upon approval, edits and suggestions are made to the submitted work for author approval before it is published. There is no compensation for contributions to The Bayou Review; however, there are no fees for submissions.
“The Bayou Review is a unique opportunity for students to learn about the publishing world,” said Cesarco Eglin in response to an inquiry about the value offered by The Bayou Review for student interns. “It’s a hands-on experience where they [the interns] learn to be editors, to work as a team, professional development, and much more.”
The spring 2025 issue of The Bayou Review is slated to launch virtually on April 24 at 2:30 p.m. with an open house event planned to be held on Feb. 4.
More information regarding The Bayou Review, submission guidelines, the selection process, and frequently asked questions can be found at bayoureview.org. Future updates concerning production, events, and the issue’s launch are posted at @thebayoureview on Instagram. The deadline to submit work to [email protected] is Feb. 16.
